Wow it's been awhile!!

Goodness me but where does the time go?

Here we are at the end of 2013 and it has been a busy year for me and I am looking forward to 2014 with a renewed energy.

I worked with an amazing charity - Mercy Law Resource Centre, a Law Firm specialising in dealing with people who have found themselves homeless or about to become homeless. I spent a year there helping raise their profile with social media, networking and website development allowing for more funding streams to come on board and dealing with some of the administrative side of things too.  If you are interested in their work go to www.mercylaw.ie.

I worked for  a short while with Outrageous Productions, a media company getting itself up and running in 2013, we brain stormed, got ideas off the ground and submitted projects to various creative competitions open to us.  Here is one we submitted to the Uniquely Dublin competition, I did the sound editing on the project:

The end of the year saw me taking some time out for myself - it was needed!! and now I am looking forward to 2014 refreshed and focused on what I want to now creatively do with this part of my journey.

I hope our paths will cross and I look forward to sharing more with you over the coming year.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and here's to 2014 may it bring health, happiness and joy for us all.

Another great interview

Well I have met some amazing people already on my travels,
This was an interview I did with Deirdre Garvey, CEO of The Wheel about her reaction to the first 'Claiming Our Future' at the RDS.  Great insight and thoughts from Deirdre about the day.

July 2012

All is well in Dublin - still trying to get my foot in the door of Radio in Dublin and it will happen one of these days :) I recently attended a Learning Waves Training Morning at the Clarion Hotel in Dublin entitled very appropriately 'Get Your Foot In The Door'.  It re-invigorated me again to continue to pursue what it is I love.
Going through my sounds so far I wanted to put up another piece from Radio Kerry - so great to listen again, the creativity of it all :) and also some of my news bulletins from Kfm - had a great time there. I covered the weekend shifts and holidays - listen and let me know what you think?  Do I have a voice for radio? some say I do - what do you think?

Forgotten Kerry Scotia's Grave

Thank you to Louise Brown and Liam Heaslip classmates from Radio Kerry Training for their voices along with my own which made this the piece it is.  I wrote the script, recorded the wild track, our conversation  on location and then edited the piece and decided the background music for the piece.  A good start to what was a great year of putting packages together at Radio Kerry Training.

Another Interview from Claiming Our Future

The optimism of it all, thank you Eilish Stanley.  Great to get the feedback from an experienced community participant, social worker and activist about the day that was 'Claiming our Future'.

It's May and the Sun is Shining

Hello there - it's been a while but believe me I have been busy!!! :) Life in Dublin is busy and getting better all the time.  I have just finished off a week of sound / multi-media back stage at Live Love Laugh a one woman show written & performed by Eilish  O'Carroll and directed by Sonya Mulligan.  I am so happy I said yes - what an experience for the week at the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival and to top it all off we won an award at the  Gala's last night the Doric Wilson Award :) Ah to be surrounded by the freedom of creativity for the week was just brilliant.  I found a couple of more pieces I had put together last summer and I hope you enjoy them.  It's such a beautiful day today and so wonderful to be alive - sun shining always gives me the feeling of hope and newness and warmth and laughter and lots of creativity :)  Enjoy the weather and here's to a good summer filled with fun.

At the End of July - looking forward to what's to come

Here I am at the end of my working with Radio Kerry for the month of July.
Lots of experience working with Treasa Murphy, producer of Kerry Today and Jerry O'Sullivan, presenter.  And working with all the staff in all their guises at Radio Kerry.  It's been a great experience, full of encouragement, support and advice, now it's off out into that great big world to see what's ahead for Rita Ann and her trusty 'flashmic'.  It will be an adventure whatever happens, I do know that - so look out Dublin, here I come.

Here is a taste of some of the short features I produced for various programmes including Kerry Today and the In Business Programme on Radio Kerry.

1.
I attended Terry Prone's workshop at Listowel Writers Week and while there asked her could I interview her for Radio Kerry, she kindly agreed and asked would I interview her in front of the other 14 participants - so off we went.

2.
We found out that School Wardens were training at a very busy junction in Tralee one Wednesday so I was sent off out to see were they still there and what was it all about.  I just got to them as they were finishing up but I did manage to talk to the trainer on the day.

3.
I visited Laura-Jane Nealon and her three sons at her house in Lixnaw for Kerry Today - her son Evan who is 14 months old was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis just 4 months ago and she is highlighting the disease - The interview aired on Kerry Today on the 19th July 2011 and this is a link to the youtube piece that I put together for Laura-Jane using the interview we did together and her photos.

4.
I headed to Listowel Farmers Market for Anna Curtin on the In Business Show to see how they were getting on - I researched and wrote the script for the intro and outro of the piece.

5.
Independent Cinema - a rarity in Ireland anymore but there is one still going strong in Listowel in Co. Kerry.  I met up with Kieran Gleeson, owner of the Classic Cinema in Listowel and he talked of his love of the film industry and how he is surviving in these times.  It was aired on the 'In business' show on Radio Kerry on 28th July 2011.

Sounds So Far July 2011

Hi again,
Well, I finally have managed to put some of my previous work from Radio Kerry Training Days, Interviews, Short Features, Vox pops and other bits and bobs up on my blog. It's a taster of the work I have done and hope to do more of. It's such a great job to have, I look forward to doing more of this, getting a lot more experience and have clips of better and better quality to share.
Hope you enjoy some of the work and come back for more :)

First piece:

Well back in Oct 2010, a month on the Radio Kerry Training course and I was off up to the RDS in Dublin to the event Claiming Our Future.  I was full of enthusiasm, excitement and hand trembling fear, but I took a deep breath, registered with the Media section as a Freelance Journalist  -still have the id card :) and off into the auditorium with me.  I got to interview a lot of people on the day and I will put other interviews up here shortly.  But this is one I did with Bríd Nolan, one of the organizers, it was towards the end of the day when you could really see things had gone well, so both of us were full of enthusiasm.

Here are some other interviews I did on the day, Mary Coughlan, the singer, Fergus Finlay,

Second piece:
Nov 2010 in Radio Kerry Training we had a Task to put together Ads from real Scripts that Radio Kerry would have received.  I got the wonderful script informing people about the National Dairy Show happening  in Millstreet.  So I had fun with it, researched it and wrote this Script and produced the Ad - see what you think?  Thanks to Louise Brown and John Naughton fellow class mates for their voices on the Ad.

Third piece:
We were asked to put together a 3 minute short feature on someone that we greatly admire.  Mary Robinson was the first to come to my mind and even if it is overly gushing in enthusiastic praise for her, I make no apologies, I am so happy she is back in Ireland, maybe she'll pull us out of this crazy place we are in.

Fourth piece:
Dec 2010 we were asked to put an Opinion Piece together, many of my friends are working in the Domestic Violence sector, helping women deal with the awful situations they find themselves in.  After seeing another article in the paper about a woman being murdered by her partner, I put this piece together.

Fifth piece:
Dec 2010 saw us having an Assignment which involved again putting an ad together for radio.  I chose Dantes  Italian Restaurant, Tralee.  Again I researched it, had fun with it and wrote this Script and produced the Ad.  Thanks to Liam Heaslip and Ciaran O'Reagan fellow class mates for their voices on the Ad.

Sixth piece:
Radio Kerry Training set up an online radio station, Z103 - a proper station with a full schedule of shows, news at the top of the hour, every hour as well as music, current affairs and entertainment shows.  For the first part of the online radio I did the Morning Show with Liam Heaslip.  We aired between 8 and 9am and we woke everyone up in the morning, o yes we did.  What a great name for the show too - the Cock Crow Crack O Dawn Show.  This was our Signature Tune - we picked the music and I found the various voice tracks and put it all together - not too bad for a new-comer to the world of editing.

Seventh piece:
I worked with 2 other classmates Margaret Sheehan and Suzanne Keane at RK Training to put 3, 3 minute short features together.  We had to research our ideas, come up with a theme for the 3 of them, script them, record interviews where necessary, get voxpop's for them, decide on background music, voice them and finally produce them.  I am very proud of what the three of us achieved.

Eighth piece:
The PPI Awards are a big part of the Radio world.  The class of Radio Kerry Training 2011 put together short features 'Moments that Shaped Kerry' and Suzanne Keane and I worked together on 2 features together.  1. Kerry Airport and 2. Light in the Black Valley.  At this particular time I don't know if any of our features made it into the PPI submission but I am still very proud of what we created.

Ninth piece:
Z103 online radio was going from strength to strength and I got an opportunity to not only present the Morning breakfast show, I also researched and presented the News bulletins and in the last month of the radio station I worked with Áine Knightly and Louise Brown on 'A Current Affair' where we looked at the current and breaking news.  It was a daily show where we interviewed many different people from many different areas and walks of life.  It was a great experience.  Here are some of the 'live' interviews I did:
